Hell Highway A True Life Journey Of Child Abuse Alcohol And Drug Addiction G Daniel Cole Books
Dear Gloria,I downloaded this ebook some time ago and finally got around to reading it. I had seen your Dad around the Amazon forums for a while and, ya know, I wanted to support a fellow writer and all that. I figured I'd give it a quick run through and maybe offer up some help or suggestions. You see, it is so imperfectly written. There are typos sprinkled throughout, sentences are hackneyed at times and there's a wild spattering of improper upper/lower case usage in addition to bad punctuation. But I thought that it had the potential to be a good, strong story with just the right amount of correction and rewrite.
I couldn't quickly run through it though. It's a long piece and usually I would have put something like this down and moved on to something else. I mean, after all, I'll only read long books by Tolkien, Rand or Clancy, right?
I couldn't put it down.
I couldn't stop reading it.
Even after my Samsung tablet locked up on me, and I had to wait a week to get it working right again, the first thing I did was resume reading Hell's Highway. Despite whatever glitches may exist, it's such a compelling saga that I needed to find out how it ended, to see if there was redemption at its end.
And now that I have finished the book, I realize that any suggestions I could make with regards to improving it would be as smoke in the wind. Hell's Highway, in its own right, is an honest tale, and I think that any tampering would lessen its voice.
So, Gloria, I just wanted to let you know that you should be proud of your father. Not for what he used to be, but for what he managed to become in spite of his history. And how love finally broke through the depravity and rescued him from his ultimate demise.
That love was for you, and it was from God.
Blessings from my family to yours, Gloria.
Rest in peace.

Hell Highway A True Life Journey Of Child Abuse Alcohol And Drug Addiction G Daniel Cole Books Reviews
Completely in awe by his life story. Truely on of the best memoirs I have read. You've got to read this book
Five stars
A very honest story of just how far alcoholism and drug addiction will take you. A recovering alcoholic myself, I am grateful I didn't have to experience the hell written about here.
I love it when I find a book by an author who isn't famous but can really write. This story drew me in and kept me turning the pages to see what happened next. This is a story of survival, learning and loving that all of us can take something away with us at the end.
HELL'S HIGHWAY IS A MUST- READ FOR EVERY AMERICAN
The true story recounted within the pages of this amazing book cuts like razor wire into the heart and soul of all who read it. From the pen of Author G. Daniel Cole comes a living hell born of parental abuse and nurtured by the solace society's outcasts readily find in drugs and alcohol.
This book makes no pretence of literary finesse. The story comes straight from the mouth of this alienated young man who by rights should never have survived...as he takes you from city lockups to state prisons to flophouses to the hole in the ground where he lived like an animal for months.
But Danny Cole DID survive...survived to educate us all to the reality of the hellish netherworld that exists in every American city and town...a netherworld populated by the hopeless...by men and women who will do anything for the chemical fix that will allow them to survive just one more day.
Hell's Highway is a must-read for every American, for within its pages is a powerful message that can save the lives of many, and bring awareness and understanding to us all.

I'm not sure what I should say about this book, other than it was WAY too long. There were inspiring parts but it felt like the author gave his "solution" in the last chapter and it was case closed. I felt for him, some parts of his life were just vile, almost defy description, but the details, details, details. It seems that he, as an alcoholic, has remembered every single beer (and the brand) and mixed drink he ever had in his life. This level of detail very much detracts from his message but I am glad if other people have found hope from his book. Maybe a re-edited version will come out at some point?
This book was highly entertaining for the first 3/4 or so. I'm not sure someone as drunk and high as the author could remember things in as much detail as is put forth in the book, but even if half the stories are true it's a fun read. Let's face it - the author wasn't an angel in the way he treated others and even himself. He was pretty self-centered and pretty much everything he did was to feel good or have fun. Even when he finds love he can't make that last due to his addictions and thrill/fun-seeking behavior. It's worth a read - just don't expect it to be the feel-good book of the year.
